Euro 2020 Qualifiers: Italy coach Roberto Mancini
Although he did not call him this week, as part of the qualifiers for Euro 2020, the coach of Italy Roberto Mancini reiterated his commitment to Mario Balotelli.
If Mario Balotelli (Brescia) is still missing from his roster for the Nazionale rally in preparation for the Euro 2020 qualifier against Bosnia and Armenia, the striker received a fine tribute from the coach Italian Roberto Mancini, the man who launched him at the top level at Inter Milan.
"I like Mario, I had him start as a kid. I hope to call it because it will mean that it has done well and if it is called, it will be only for technical reasons," said Mancini in a press conference on Monday.
He also mentioned the racist cries that hit Super Mario in Italy: "We are in 2019 and we still think about the skin color of one or the other, unfortunately, it is not so easy to change the mentality."
Balotelli has not been selected by Mancini for more than a year, but Italian Football Federation president Gabriele Gravina said appointing him to the squad would send a strong message as the Brescia striker has recently been the victim of racist insults.
Mancini said that "if Balotelli gets another selection, it will be because he deserves it from a technical point of view."
Balotelli was retained in the first two teams of Mancini, but he was again ignored the upcoming European qualifications against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Armenia.
Balotelli has long said his goal was to join the national team for the European Championship next year. As a reminder, the Italian striker scored two goals in seven Serie A matches with Brescia this season.
