Portuguese Primeira Liga: Bruno Fernandes extends his contract with Sporting CP.
Bruno Fernandes has signed a new contract with his club. He was previously linked with the Leoes until June 2023.
The midfielder of Sporting CP, coveted last summer by the biggest European clubs, opted for an extension.
Arrived at Sporting in 2017 after a stint in Italy, Bruno Fernandes has established himself as a key player in the Portuguese formation. The club Lisbon announced Tuesday night the extension of the medium without giving the new term of the contract of the Portuguese international. Initially, the latter was linked to Sporting until 2023. Last summer, Real Madrid was particularly interested in buying the offensive midfielder.
Initially linked until June 2023 with the Portuguese club, the 25-year-old midfielder rode for a term that was not specified. " For me, it's a pride and a recognition of my work, it's a sign that I'm doing things right, I've done my best to do what's best for the club."
Will the Portuguese international still be involved in the long-term with the Lisbon training? Nothing is less certain since it arouses the interest of several formations of the continent, Tottenham being the last to date.
Real Madrid and Manchester United had coveted Fernandes last summer. The newly appointed Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho would also be on his heels, according to the British press.
Mourinho has ruled out any incursion into the January transfer market. By the end of the season, however, the scenario will be quite different.
With the aim of winning the next edition of the Premier League, the Portuguese coach is preparing to attack the summer market with force. And Fernandes is one of the two players in on his radar, alongside and Ruben Dias.
Both Fernandes and Dias have a contract valid until June 2023.
